Your Role:

As an integral member of the Engineering team, the Project Engineer – Avionics Systems will report directly to the Director of Engineering. You will be tasked with system design, development, and certification, overseeing projects from initial concept through to physical implementation. This role involves collaborating with clients and stakeholders to meet project specifications, as well as mentoring and supervising system engineers. This is a full-time, permanent position based at our North Bay, ON facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret regulatory guidelines to produce engineering documentation that supports minor or major repairs and modifications for customer aircraft.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to prepare designs and reports focused on avionics systems modifications.
  • Assist in developing conceptual designs, feasibility studies, estimates, and aircraft modifications to fulfill project requirements.
  • Create Certification Plans and demonstrate compliance with relevant regulatory standards.
  • Draft necessary engineering reports to substantiate projects, including system safety assessments, reliability assessments, risk assessments, EWIS analysis, Functional Hazard Assessments, and Electrical Load Analysis.
  • Generate and submit supplemental aircraft manual documentation as needed for fleet repairs and modifications.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff to support their professional development.
  • Collaborate with a team of fabricators and installers to implement designs onto the aircraft.
  • Coordinate with appropriate vendors to support engineering projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering with a specialization in avionics systems.
  • A Master's degree in aerospace engineering is considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the design, analysis, and certification of avionics systems modifications, including but not limited to:
  • Mission management system integrations.
  • EO/IR sensor integrations.
  • EFP / PED electrical provisions.
  • ADS-B, TCAS, TAWS A systems.
  • Radio Altimeter upgrades/installations.
  • CVR/FDR upgrades/installations.
  • Terrain/Search Radar installations.
  • Familiarity with Dash 7, Dash 8, and CRJ aircraft is considered an asset.
  • Eligibility for P.Eng license in Ontario.
  • Proven knowledge in testing, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
  • Understanding of Transport Canada Civil Aviation Regulatory Certification requirements.
  • Transport Canada Aircraft Certification Specialty and Change Product Rule Specialty Training or similar is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Safety Analysis (i.e., SAE ARP 4761), industry certification standards (i.e., DO-160), and regulatory requirements for various certification projects is advantageous.
  • Ability to lead a team of fabricators and installers towards a shared goal.
  • Capability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal supervision from senior engineers.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work for a Canadian company and provide a clear criminal background check.
  • Candidates must be able to obtain a Government of Canada Secret Level Clearance.

  • This position is based at our North Bay head office. Depending on the role's nature, we have implemented Remote and Hybrid Work Models; please discuss this with your recruiter.
