Position OverviewAs a vital member of the Engineering team, the Avionics Systems Project Engineer will report directly to the Director of Engineering. This role encompasses system design, development, and certification, overseeing projects from initial concept through to physical development. You will collaborate with customers and stakeholders to meet project specifications while also mentoring and supervising junior engineers.
Key Responsibilities- Interpret regulatory guidelines to create engineering data supporting repairs and modifications for customer aircraft.
- Apply sound engineering principles to prepare designs and reports focused on avionics systems modifications.
- Assist in developing conceptual designs, feasibility studies, and estimates for aircraft modifications.
- Create Certification Plans and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
- Generate necessary engineering reports to substantiate projects, including system safety assessments and reliability evaluations.
- Produce and submit supplemental documentation for repairs and modifications to the aircraft fleet.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff to foster professional development.
- Collaborate with a team of fabricators and installers to implement designs on aircraft.
- Coordinate with vendors to support engineering projects.
A Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering with a focus on avionics systems is required. A Master's degree in aerospace engineering is considered an asset. Candidates should have 3-5 years of experience in the design, analysis, and certification of avionics systems modifications, including:
- EFP / PED electrical provisions
- Radio Altimeter upgrades/installations
- CVR/FDR upgrades/installations
- Terrain/Search Radar installations
Familiarity with Dash 7, Dash 8, and CRJ aircraft is advantageous. An engineering license in Ontario is required, along with demonstrated knowledge in testing, troubleshooting, and problem-solving. Knowledge of Transport Canada Civil Aviation Regulatory Certification requirements is essential, and familiarity with Safety Analysis and regulatory requirements for various certification projects is beneficial.
The ability to work collaboratively and independently with minimal guidance from senior engineers is crucial. This position is based out of our North Bay head office, with options for Remote and Hybrid Work Models available.
