About the Role

The Package Equipment Operator will be trained to operate various packaging lines and equipment used to produce a wide variety of salt and salt products in a food-grade manufacturing facility. A high regard for safety and quality specifications is paramount.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate bagger and ensure bags are filled and coded properly.
  • Operate a forklift, or work with the Forklift Operator as a team to promote safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity.
  • Maintain production records and check-weigh bags as required. Adjust scales to maintain proper bag weights. Responsible for delivering salt samples to the Lab when required.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and minor maintenance work on the bag packer and related equipment. Assist maintenance personnel on repairs to bagger equipment when required.
  • Coordinate salt flow to the bagging station with the Mixer Operator.
  • Responsible for proper and correct coding of bags.
  • Work from a daily production schedule to include special products, codes, or palletizing.
  • May be required to conduct or assist with monthly spare parts inventory cycle counts. May be required to conduct accurate quarterly package or materials inventory cycle counts. Monitor and report on low inventory of package materials or ingredients to Production Supervisor.
  • Strictly observe GMP and Food Safety requirements; be quality conscious and report all known defects. Pay close attention to coding, product quality, package quality, GMPs, etc. Strictly observe GMP and Food Safety requirements.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by Mill Manager.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma, post-secondary education or other certifications will be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing and processing environment.
  • Experience with automated and mobile equipment will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work productively in a group/team environment.
  • Understanding of the recording of Food Safety Process Controls observations on production records/logs and how they pertain to the quality, legality, and safety of products.
  • Ability to perform job functions requires stooping, twisting, bending, reaching, climbing stairs & ladders, and lifting to a maximum of 25 kgs.

Work Environment

  • Varied temperature environment with exposure to salt dust.
  • Personal Protective Equipment is required.
