Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at Coast Mental Health. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with mental health challenges, particularly those experiencing problematic substance use. Your expertise will be instrumental in developing and implementing recreation programs that promote healing, wellness, and treatment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Recreation Therapy assessment, planning, and interventions in accordance with current evidence-based models and established standards of practice.
  • Design, deliver, and coordinate Recreation Therapy services for clients, including evaluating recreation and leisure needs and interests, establishing recreation services, and working with recreation assistants and volunteers.
  • Coordinate the work activities of designated staff and students, provide work direction, and facilitate workplace solutions.
  • Develop and implement recreation programs suitable to the varying needs and interests of clients, collaborating with the team, recreation assistants, volunteer services, and community-based groups and organizations.
  • Provide leadership and maintain knowledge in Recreation Therapy and clinical practice, including facilitating continuous learning, reviewing literature, and consulting with clinical and community experts.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation from a recognized post-secondary program.
  • Two (2) years' recent, related experience working in a mental health setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Eligible for membership in the British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA).
