Radiation Therapy Specialist

PHSA

The Radiation Therapy Specialist delivers radiation treatment services and patient support in alignment with established protocols and standards of professional practice in radiation oncology. This role encompasses treatment planning, execution, and patient follow-up.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver patient-centered care by conducting assessments, reviewing medical histories, educating patients and their families about the treatment process and potential side effects, and suggesting self-care strategies.
  • Collaborate with and/or refer patients to other healthcare professionals as necessary.
  • Execute treatment planning tasks by:
    • Analyzing, interpreting, and applying radiation treatment directives for brachytherapy and external beam radiation therapy, which includes the development of computerized treatment plans, utilization of immobilization and beam modification tools, and precise dose calculations.
    • Keeping meticulous treatment documentation.
    • Guiding patients in understanding their treatment plans and assessing their comprehension of the procedures and side effects.
    • Creating immobilization and beam shaping devices.
    • Employing simulation and related technology for the formulation and validation of treatment plans.
    • Positioning and marking patients to ensure optimal dose distribution and reproducibility of treatment plans.
    • Conducting manual and computerized planning calculations for radiation treatment methodologies.
  • Ensure that patients and their families are informed about available services at PHSA and within the community.
  • Maintain comprehensive patient records by gathering and documenting information related to patient history, assessments by the radiation therapist, management of symptoms and side effects, and educational efforts for patients and families.
  • Perform quality assurance evaluations of equipment in designated work areas following established protocols, maintaining records of these evaluations, and addressing any equipment issues as they arise.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Radiation Therapy or an equivalent certification and certification from the Canadian Association for Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
  • Successful completion of a Radiation Therapy training program or active employment as a Radiation Therapist within the last five (5) years.

  • Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.
  • Ability to work autonomously and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in applying clinical and technical knowledge in practice.
  • Skill in operating relevant equipment.
  • Competence in CPR techniques.

Job Type: Casual

Wage: $51.02 to $63.68 per hour

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday; various shifts available as operationally required
