Mechanical Designer

At Distinctive HR Group Inc, we are seeking an experienced Intermediate Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Vancouver. Our company specializes in the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for commercial, healthcare, institutional, residential, and mixed-use high-rise projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work independently on specified scopes with minimal supervision required.
- Provide coaching and delegate design tasks to junior team members.
- Mentor and supervise Mechanical Designers, reviewing their work before submission.
- Design and size distribution systems and equipment, adhering to industry standards.
- Perform load calculations using company-provided software.
- Select mechanical equipment, collaborating with suppliers and manufacturers.
- Prepare schematic design, design development, and construction documents in AutoCAD or REVIT.
- Review own work for errors and omissions, using project review checklists and clash detection software.
- Assist with drawing and book specifications preparation.
- Coordinate mechanical systems and design with other disciplines.
- Identify additional services and fees for project managers.
- Assist with contract administration, including shop drawing review and RFI responses.
- Participate in design and construction meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Maintain project schedules and budgets, tracking work progress and manpower resource utilization.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering and accreditation as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng. or PE) in the jurisdiction.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience in mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing design is an asset.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including plumbing, HVAC, heating, cooling, air handlers, and fire protection.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings.
- Strong knowledge of current codes and standards, such as local plumbing and building codes.
- Understanding of building heating and cooling load calculations.
- Proficiency in software programs, including Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and REVIT.
