Senior Director of Software Engineering

About the Role:

Loblaw Digital is seeking a highly experienced Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead our technology team in delivering innovative and customer-centric solutions. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the technical vision and strategy for our digital products, ensuring timely and consistent delivery of new features, and building a high-performing technology team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the technology team in an agile development environment, focusing on releasing often, testing, and iterating to drive great digital experiences for Loblaw.
  • Ensure consistent and timely delivery of new features, driving velocity, predictability, and quality.
  • Develop, recruit, and retain top engineering talent, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
  • Communicate project status and issues to executives and stakeholders in a concise and accurate manner.
  • Collaborate with multiple business and technical teams to define and deliver complex customer-facing solutions.
  • Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, and balance business needs versus technical constraints.
  • Plan and manage multiple parallel projects, ensuring timely completion and quality.
  • Work with the product management team to continuously improve product development methodologies.
  • Shape the future of the Loblaw Digital Technology Organization as a member of the leadership team.

Requirements:

  • 10 years of progressive experience, including at least one in a senior management or director-level role, preferably in a high-volume, complex, consumer-facing eCommerce environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science required, advanced degree preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of Cloud Native, Web, Mobile, and Continuous Delivery technologies, especially as they relate to eCommerce.
  • Excellent understanding of Agile and Scrum methodologies.
  • Eye for talent and a history of building high-performance development teams.
  • Hands-on technologist who can dive deep and hold their own with senior developers building a scalable product.
