Position Overview: The Recreationist plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents in the Memory Care Floor through innovative and therapeutic programming.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Terraces Recreation team to create and implement therapeutic activities tailored for residents with memory care needs.
  • Provide comprehensive program coverage, which may include evening and weekend shifts as required.
  • Design and facilitate engaging individual and group activities that cater to the unique needs of residents.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness by executing spontaneous programming to address immediate resident needs.
  • Work alongside Volunteers and interdisciplinary staff to assess and monitor the evolving needs of residents.
  • Promote intergenerational programming to foster community connections.
  • Actively contribute to the multi-disciplinary care team to ensure holistic resident care.
  • Coordinate with various departments to enhance service delivery.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of program supplies to support ongoing activities.
  • Uphold infection control standards and adhere to established policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a 2-year College Diploma in Recreation, Activation, or a related field.
  • Active membership with TRO or APO is preferred.
  • Proven experience in planning, executing, and evaluating creative recreation programs.
  • Proficient in working with older adults, particularly those who are frail or cognitively impaired.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, effectively managing challenging situations.
  • Proficiency in a second language such as Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian, or Hungarian is advantageous.
  • Certification in U-First and/or Alzheimer Society for Dementia Care Training Program (DCTP) is preferred.
  • Familiarity with community resources is a plus.
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Publisher.
