About Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH)

The Psychiatry Department at Richmond Hospital is actively seeking a psychiatrist for a permanent role to fill two part-time positions within the hospital setting. The position is available for immediate commencement.

The Richmond Hospital Psychiatry Consult Liaison Program (0.2 FTE) operates within Richmond Hospital, providing essential consultation and short-term management for various mental health conditions. Most referrals come from physicians admitting patients to medical and surgical wards. The Consult Liaison Psychiatrist is responsible for conducting psychiatric assessments and treatments for patients in these wards, collaborating closely with the primary care team to ensure integrated patient care. Supervision of medical students and psychiatry residents may also be part of the role.

The Richmond Rapid Access Consult Clinic (0.3 FTE) is situated in Richmond Hospital, offering swift consult services for referrals from the Emergency Department and community Family Physicians for patients needing urgent consultations and counseling.

The Richmond Hospital In-Patient Service (0.5 FTE) is dedicated to providing psychiatric services to inpatients. The psychiatrist will conduct assessments and treatments for patients in medical and surgical wards, perform consultations in the Emergency Department, and work in conjunction with the primary care team for cohesive patient care.

Richmond Hospital is a fully accredited facility with 228 acute care beds, serving a local population of approximately 200,000, along with an additional catchment area of nearly 120,000. The hospital is committed to addressing the needs of the community and is looking for a psychiatrist to deliver services to an adult demographic within a collaborative team framework.

Required Qualifications

Education, Licensing, & Experience:

  • Current full registration with the College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC)
  • Eligibility for the Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP)
  • Mandatory membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • Fellowship with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) is preferred
