Position Overview

The Manitoba Government is seeking enthusiastic and driven individuals to assist with engineering and operational tasks within the Infrastructure sector. This role provides a collaborative team atmosphere along with comprehensive on-the-job training, catering to various temporary positions available until the conclusion of the construction season.

Employment Conditions:

  • Legal authorization to work in Canada is required.
  • A valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's license must be maintained.
  • Basic Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety vests, and steel-toed footwear is mandatory.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites across the province, including potential overnight stays, is essential.
  • Availability for extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, is necessary, along with readiness for call-outs and working in adverse weather conditions.
  • Physical capability to perform all job-related tasks in outdoor environments with exposure to various hazards is required.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Competence in basic mathematical calculations.
  • Understanding of Occupational Safety, Health, and Risk Management principles.
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Clear and concise writing abilities.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Prior experience in outdoor manual labor is preferred.

Desired:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of construction procedures and guidelines relevant to this role, including surveying and material testing.

Role Responsibilities:

The Highway Engineering Assistant (HEA) will report directly to the Highway Project Technologist and will receive guidance from the Highway Construction Technician (HCT). The HEA will engage in fundamental technical tasks while adhering to departmental standards and policies. Typical responsibilities may include serving as a Survey Assistant, Checker, Scale Person, Flagperson, or Project Assistant.
