Job Title: Full Time Residential Counsellor, Prime Worker

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Residential Counsellor to join our team at Broadview Village, a local expression of The Salvation Army in Canada. As a Residential Counsellor, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to adults with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized support plans to promote personal growth and independence.
  • Provide emotional support and advocacy for residents, facilitating their self-advocacy and community integration.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to ensure comprehensive care and support.
  • Administer medication and coordinate health appointments as needed.
  • Manage resident finances and maintain accurate records.
  • Plan and participate in community outings and learning opportunities.
  • Supervise and assist residents with daily living tasks, including meal preparation and clean-up.
  • Maintain a clean and safe living environment, adhering to health and safety protocols.
  • Provide orientation and support to new staff members, students, and volunteers.
Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to dirt, bodily fluids, and other environmental hazards.
  • Dealing with challenging behaviors and emotions.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, applying effective body mechanics.
Qualifications and Education:
  • Completed 2-3 year Developmental Services Worker Diploma or equivalent degree/diploma.
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR Level C Certificate.
  • Ability to achieve Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certificate.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
Experience and Knowledge:
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges.
  • Experience with writing and implementing individual support plans.
  • Medication administration experience preferred.
Skills and Capabilities:
  • Strong counselling and de-escalation support skills.
  • Ability to complete mandatory training and background checks.
  • Ability to develop an understanding and support for The Salvation Army's mission and purpose.
