Position Overview
This is a full-time, permanent librarian role at the Coordinator II level, designed for a three-year term with the potential for ongoing renewal.

Position Summary
The Coordinator II is tasked with leading and coordinating projects and services associated with Library Indigenous Initiatives. This role encompasses planning, development, oversight, training, and implementation of ongoing projects and services. The Coordinator will collaborate closely with the faculty librarian team to approve and execute project proposals, policy initiatives, and planning priorities.
Key Responsibilities
A. Planning and Development
- Directs the planning and execution of projects aimed at decolonizing and Indigenizing the Library.
- Supports the values and objectives outlined in the College's Strategic Innovation Plan and Academic Plan.
- Designs and develops services in alignment with library and industry standards.
- Engages in continuous evaluation of services.
- Collaborates with the Department Head to assist in departmental budgeting.
- Provides leadership in adapting to a changing library landscape by promoting new information technologies and service standards.
B. Faculty, Staff, and Student Relations
- Establishes and nurtures relationships with relevant Indigenous programs and initiatives across the College, as well as with student, employee, and community groups.
- Consults with stakeholders to build strong partnerships.
- Acts as a resource for Indigenous research methodologies and traditional knowledge.
- Facilitates support for Library staff in Indigenous teaching and learning, assisting instructors in decolonizing and Indigenizing their Library-related instruction.
- Participates in communities of practice focused on decolonization and Indigenization.
C. Library Project Management and Administration
- Coordinates and leads projects and services in this area, collaborating with others on shared initiatives.
- Communicates significant project developments to the faculty librarian team and recommends changes when necessary.
- Trains and guides library staff involved in projects and services, addressing performance concerns with supervisors.
- Manages budgets and expenditures related to projects.
- Works with coordinators and staff to ensure coverage during absences.
- Updates job descriptions and responsibilities as required.
- Oversees the creation and maintenance of guidelines and procedures, ensuring efficient workflows.
- Encourages effective communication among all Library and Learning Centre personnel.
- Provides updates to management as needed.
D. Professional Responsibilities
- Engages in College-wide committees, events, and projects.
- Stays current through professional literature, workshops, and relevant communities.
- Completes required training for emerging responsibilities.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Experience with Indigenous cultures, histories, and knowledge systems, along with community connections and familiarity with local Indigenous communities.
- Proven experience in building relationships with Indigenous peoples and communities.
- Knowledge of Indigenous knowledge systems, decolonization, and the significance of positive self-concept in education.
- A Master's Degree in Library and Information Sciences from an accredited institution or an equivalent.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong understanding of Indigenous literature and issues related to Indigenizing and decolonizing higher education and libraries.
- Ability to teach information literacy from an Indigenous perspective.
- Knowledge of the relationship between traditional knowledge and intellectual property, and research ethics in Indigenous contexts.
- Recent experience in a college or university library setting.
- Experience coordinating library services in an educational environment.
- Demonstrated judgment, diplomacy, and sensitivity in challenging discussions.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
- Strong planning and instructional delivery skills.
- Adaptability to change.
- Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills, both written and verbal.
Compensation
The salary for this position is prorated based on FTE, starting at $83.97/hour, with additional annual allowances.
