Join Our Team as a Robotics Mission Operations Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Robotics Mission Operations Engineer to join our team at Macdonald, Dettwiler And Associates Corporation. As a key member of our Robotics and Space Operations team, you will play a critical role in supporting the mission operations team through mathematical analysis and modeling required to analyze on-orbit tasks for the International Space Station.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the mission operations team through mathematical analysis and modeling required to analyze on-orbit tasks for the International Space Station.
  • Document work and participate in system-level technical discussions when required, including customer interaction with the Canadian Space Agency and NASA.
  • Participate in end-to-end mission design and analysis, including robotic simulation and analysis, kinematic analysis and path planning, robotic interface contact dynamics modeling, and development of mission-specific display and control parameters.
  • Review on-orbit procedures, flight follow, and performance monitoring, as well as on-orbit off-nominal/anomaly investigations.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, Mechatronics, Engineering Physics, Computer Engineering, and/or Applied Mathematics or Physics.
  • Strong ability to work independently on assigned tasks as well as a member of a team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Robotics experience in one or more of the following areas: multi-DOF manipulators, kinematics, dynamics, control systems, systems, and operations.
  • Software experience: comfortable with Linux, general understanding of programming languages (primarily Python, but other languages such as Ada, Fortran, C#, are an asset), Matlab (Matlab Simulink is an asset), general CAD software knowledge (for example Solidworks, 3ds Max, etc.), configuration management tools (for example Git-based tools), and agile project management tools (such as JIRA and Confluence).

Additional Skills:

  • Background in multibody dynamics and simulation.
  • Background in finite element model simulation.
  • Experience in machine learning/AI.
  • Some exposure to space operations and/or have a passion for human spaceflight exploration.
