Position Overview

As a member of our elite team of instructor pilots, you will play a pivotal role in fostering an engaging and stimulating atmosphere for trainees mastering the PC-21 aircraft.

In the lead-up to the initiation of training, the Advanced Flying Training Fixed-Wing (AFT-FW) Instructor Pilot will collaborate closely with a dedicated team of Qualified Flight Instructors (CQFIs) to design and refine the pilot training framework for the future of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF). This includes:

  • Participating in aircraft type conversion training;
  • Assisting in the creation and enhancement of course materials, which encompass classroom instruction, synthetic training devices, and live flight training sequences;
  • Engaging in acceptance testing for course materials, synthetic training devices, and aircraft;
  • Contributing to the establishment of a comprehensive training center through the formulation of policy and procedural documents;
  • Facilitating the integration and testing of various Information Management systems;
  • Evaluating the lesson plans for synthetic training devices and PC-21 air lesson plans.

Your Responsibilities:

Once training reaches a steady state, the AFT-FW Instructor Pilot will be tasked with maintaining an instructional designation as a CQFI, which includes:

  • Delivering instruction in classrooms, on synthetic training devices, and in PC-21 aircraft;
  • Ensuring flying proficiency and compliance with relevant regulations;
  • Conducting instructional flights in accordance with RCAF training doctrine;
  • Executing all missions outlined in the AFT-FW syllabus, including cross-country and return missions;
  • Assisting the flight commander in overseeing instructor continuity for assigned students;
  • Preparing and delivering presentations on instructional topics, including ground school as necessary;
  • Adhering to the CAF Flight Safety program and protocols;
  • Supporting documentation efforts for procedures and manuals;
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for internal and external organizations;
  • Participating in regular reviews of course materials and procedures;
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of course content;
  • Potentially undertaking Maintenance Test Pilot duties as required.

Currency Requirements:

As the Instructor Pilot, you will be accountable for maintaining RCAF currency and proficiency standards, which include:

  • Aeromedical Training;
  • Spatial Disorientation Training;
  • Centrifuge Training;
  • Escape Systems/Ground Egress Training;
  • ALSE Training;
  • Sea Survival Training;
  • Air Operations Survival – Land;
  • Servicing Training for Cross-Country flights;
  • First Aid Certification, including CPR and AED;
  • Fire prevention and extinguisher training every four years.

Candidate Qualifications:

Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

For candidates without prior military experience:

  • A minimum of 500 hours of flight time in a single-pilot, high-performance aircraft;
  • Possession of a Transport Canada commercial pilot's license;
  • Current or previous TC instructor rating.

For candidates with military experience:

  • Demonstrated military experience with an acceptable Prior Learning Assessment;
  • Fluency in English, encompassing reading, writing, and verbal communication;
  • Military or professional flying experience within the last decade;
  • Maintaining an unrestricted TC category 1 medical certificate;
  • Body weight and measurements must comply with aircraft specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Prior experience as a QFI in NFTC or PC-21;
  • Experience in supervisory or military flight leadership roles;
  • Flight lead experience in trainer or fighter aircraft;
  • Background in military instruction;
  • Completion of the RCAF Aerospace Warfare Centre Operational Test and Evaluation Course or equivalent;
  • Proficiency in verbal French.

All candidates must successfully complete a security evaluation in accordance with the Controlled Goods Directorate of Canada and comply with necessary transfer authorizations.
