Within the framework of a client and family-centered care model, and aligned with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Providence Health Care, the role fosters a safe, respectful, and civil working environment for all stakeholders including patients, families, visitors, and staff.

Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Clinical Informatics Manager and is tasked with executing the strategic direction of Providence Health Care regarding the development, maintenance, and sustainability of current and future health information systems aimed at enhancing clinical workflows.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a liaison between clinical operations and technology by engaging with system users to comprehend workflows, define clinical requirements, and spearhead business analysis for clinical informatics initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Professional Practice and associated personnel to adapt, implement, and maintain the PHC strategy for integrating clinical content into health information systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting and support to end-users, oversee incident resolution, and maintain comprehensive documentation while ensuring data integrity and standardization.
  • May offer guidance and support to other team members, including Clinical Analysts and Clinical Informatics Analysts.
  • Engage in project planning and actively participate in internal and external working groups and committees that support clinical informatics projects.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a healthcare setting, with substantial exposure to relevant technology, clinical informatics, clinical change management, and project leadership.
  • Experience in implementing and supporting integrated clinical system environments is considered an asset.
  • Possession of a valid BC Driver's License is required for travel between sites, with mileage reimbursed as per the collective agreement.
  • A foundational understanding of data and clinical information as operationalized within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to generate knowledge.
  • Proficient in developing system implementation and training programs and strategies.
  • Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, and problem-solving skills to identify gaps and opportunities for enhancement.
  • Advanced computer skills with various applications pertinent to the role.
  • Ability to translate clinical processes into technical system solutions to address clinical needs and document future-state workflows.
  • Involvement in the design of new and existing clinical information technologies in line with organizational priorities and best practice standards through collaboration with departments and projects.
  • Evaluate solutions for effectiveness in collaboration with other departments to ensure the development of technologies that meet clinical needs and comply with best practice standards across all healthcare disciplines.
  • Participate in the creation of project plans and related documentation to support clinical informatics projects throughout all phases of the systems development life cycle.
  • Support the implementation of computer and communication technologies and clinical change initiatives that enhance evidence-based clinical practices and access to patient information via the EHR.
  • Provide on-site or remote application troubleshooting to a diverse range of end users and act as a resource to ensure data quality and consistent practices.
  • Monitor the resolution of incidents related to clinical utilization issues by gathering user feedback, identifying trends, and collaborating with technical support staff and management.
  • May provide direction and support to other staff members such as Clinical Analysts and Clinical Informatics Analysts.
  • Lead and participate in steering committees and working groups for PHC or regional informatics projects, collaborating with IMITS teams and other departments for clinical information systems testing.
  • Identify user learning needs and coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational tools and programs to meet the needs of electronic health information system users.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of consistent interim and permanent solutions to identified informatics challenges, ensuring continuous quality improvement through regional standardization of clinical documentation.
  • Engage with members of the PHSA IMITS department and other organizational programs/departments to support system-wide practice and workflow change initiatives.
  • Participate in error correction and data integrity activities to ensure quality data collection and system efficiency.
  • Stay informed about developments in the healthcare industry related to clinical informatics and advise on the implementation of relevant standards, tools, and processes.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety regulations and promptly report unsafe situations to the appropriate personnel.
