Durham College is in search of a skilled and passionate professional who aligns with our dedication to quality education and student achievement. The School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology is looking for a part-time instructor to teach Construction Site Management within our Civil Engineering program.

Course Overview:

This course encompasses both theoretical and practical aspects of Construction Site Supervision and Management as applied within the construction sector. Students will explore construction methodologies, systematic project management, estimation, planning, scheduling principles, resource management, and cost control systems. By utilizing project management software, students will engage in the analysis of various scheduling techniques employed in construction, including the Critical Path Method, Cash Flow Charts, and Corrective Action strategies. Furthermore, students will learn about contract administration processes relevant to the construction industry. Ultimately, students will acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage construction projects in accordance with contracts, specifications, and drawings, with a focus on optimizing time, cost, and quality throughout all phases of the project.

Important Note for Part-Time Faculty Candidates:

Recruitment for part-time positions is ongoing and is contingent upon course scheduling and faculty requirements.

Part-time faculty typically teach up to 6 hours per week, with flexible schedules available Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm and Fridays from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Responsibilities of Part-Time Professors at Durham College:

  1. Fostering a positive learning environment that respects students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning preferences;
  2. Applying adult education principles to actively engage students in the learning process;
  3. Effectively utilizing educational technologies to enhance learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses;
  4. Developing curriculum that incorporates appropriate strategies and tools for assessing student learning;
  5. Ensuring that course and program curricula remain current and relevant;
  6. Demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently;
  7. Collaborating effectively with students, program teams, and various internal and external stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  1. A relevant degree complemented by industry credentials (a Master's degree is advantageous).
  2. A minimum of five years of recent and pertinent work experience.
  3. Experience teaching at the post-secondary level, with a solid understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and contemporary assessment methodologies.
  4. Participation in industry-led or community-based applied research is considered an asset.
  5. Proficiency in utilizing current technologies to support student learning and grade management.
  6. A proven commitment to lifelong learning.
  7. Ability to work effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community partners.
  8. A comprehensive understanding of the Ontario college system.
