Position Overview

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) will play a crucial role in the support, enhancement, and execution of reliability engineering solutions for applications at Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). This position requires collaboration with various teams across different business sectors and technology partners to achieve operational excellence. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and experience in application development, support, and technology operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide application production support, including after-hours assistance as necessary.
  • Develop and implement SRE solutions such as monitoring systems, anomaly detection through machine learning, self-healing mechanisms, and reliability assessments.
  • Oversee the production environment by ensuring system availability and assessing overall health.
  • Create software and systems to manage infrastructure and applications, enhancing reliability, quality, and delivery timelines of software solutions.
  • Assist in managing incidents and resolving problems for applications under management.
  • Maintain current technology standards, including server updates and certificate renewals, while identifying automation opportunities.
  • Ensure the availability and uptime of applications in accordance with established service level objectives.
  • Guarantee compliance for all systems and applications, including maintaining appropriate segregation of duties.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting systems, anomaly detection, self-healing processes, and reliability testing for relevant applications.
  • Support the unit's objectives to adopt automation solutions for the applications in scope.
  • Utilize design-thinking and an agile approach while collaborating with SREs, Scrum Masters, and team leads.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements and engage in continuous learning through formal training and self-directed study.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in application support, software development (proficient in at least two of C/C++, Java, Golang, Python, .NET), and operations (SRE, DevOps, Cloud, Data).
  • In-depth knowledge of industry practices, particularly within financial institutions, with a focus on SRE methodologies.
  • Extensive experience across various environments (Linux, Windows, databases, cloud services, distributed systems, and mainframe applications).
  • Ability to automate routine tasks to minimize manual effort and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Hands-on experience with a range of SRE tools and languages (e.g., Ansible, Dynatrace, Moogsoft, PagerDuty, ServiceNow, Elastic, Logstash, Kibana, Blue Prism, Catch Point, Grafana).
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • Exceptional communication abilities with a straightforward approach.
  • Experience in consumer banking is advantageous.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience as an SRE in the financial trading sector.
