Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, the selected candidate will serve as the main liaison between Design Engineering and Manufacturing. You will be the primary resource for coordinating all modifications to product designs for items produced at the assembly facility.

This position requires full-time on-site presence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop conceptual designs, production drawings, and supporting calculations and material specifications, ensuring compliance with design requirements and manufacturing capabilities.
  • Create, formulate, and implement comprehensive product modifications for existing items in a continuous improvement setting. Enhance warranty performance, simplify assembly processes, and broaden product options for production.
  • Analyze and rectify bill of material (BOM) discrepancies.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all project-related activities.
  • Investigate equipment malfunctions and challenges to diagnose operational issues and propose enhancements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to deliver cost-effective solutions to design obstacles.
  • Assist in verifying details, assemblies, and BOMs for assigned projects.
  • Guide and mentor junior and intermediate Design Engineers.
  • Employ a diverse range of established or modified engineering methodologies with significant autonomy.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who are registered or pursuing their professional designation.

Preferred Attributes:

  • At least 5 years of experience as a Mechanical/Electrical designer in a heavy equipment or similar manufacturing environment.
  • Proven expertise in Mechanical design, GD&T, DFMEA, and welding/fabrication techniques.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks (formal training preferred); experience with FEA is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, DFMEA, welding/fabrication processes, hydraulic systems, and general electrical knowledge.
  • Excellent communication abilities to effectively collaborate with a diverse technical team and manufacturing personnel.
  • Strong organizational and leadership capabilities.
