Job Summary

The Personal Support Worker provides personalized support and homemaking services to clients and families within the framework of VON policies, procedures, and standards. Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate client needs and develop personalized care plans under the direction of the Personal Support Program Manager.
  • Implement care plans, ensuring client safety, liability, and financial considerations.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Provide personal care, including assistance with daily living activities, as directed by the Personal Support Program Manager or immediate supervisor.
  • Assist with household management, including light cleaning, meal preparation, and laundry.
  • Support clients' families by providing respite care and child care as needed.
  • Organize daily activities, prioritizing personal support and other tasks under the direction of the Personal Support Program Manager or immediate supervisor.
  • Complete daily reports and other forms as required to maintain effective service delivery.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • CCA Certification (Nova Scotia) or equivalent.
  • Personal Support Worker program or Health Care Aide certification.
  • Standard First Aid Certificate or CPR level C Certificate (if applicable).
  • Experience working with elderly or ill individuals or children.
  • Strong communication and assessment skills.
  • Awareness of community resources.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team or independently.
Working Conditions

This role requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment, with physical activity including lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, and other movements that emphasize good body mechanics. Individuals in this role are required to walk, sit, stand, and climb stairs throughout the day, with some tasks requiring fine hand movements.
