Position Overview
As an integral part of the educational team at Vancouver Community College, the Instructional Assistant for Trades HDCT plays a crucial role in supporting instructors and enhancing the learning experience for students in the trades sector. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities aimed at facilitating effective instruction and promoting student success.

Key Responsibilities
1. **Administrative Support**: Provide essential administrative assistance by addressing inquiries from students and external entities, preparing correspondence, maintaining meeting records, and organizing instructional materials and examinations.
2. **Resource Management**: Prepare requisitions for necessary supplies and equipment to support instructional activities.
3. **Supervision**: Oversee shop activities in the absence of the instructor, assist students with queries, and maintain accurate records of student performance.
4. **Equipment Maintenance**: Ensure the upkeep and functionality of training aids and equipment used in the shop.
5. **Project Preparation**: Set up and prepare shop projects, as well as construct training aids to enhance the educational offerings.
6. **Record Keeping**: Maintain comprehensive records, including student assessments, apprenticeship documentation, and financial reports.
7. **Event Coordination**: Organize facility tours and promotional events, ensuring all materials and equipment are ready for use.
8. **Liaison Duties**: Act as a point of contact with external organizations, including industry partners and apprenticeship boards.

Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 and possession of Red Seal Certification in Heavy Duty Equipment or a related trades program, along with relevant experience in mechanical equipment and welding.
- Certification in Forklift operation (1-4-5) is mandatory.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Skills and Competencies
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- In-depth knowledge of safety practices, tools, and methodologies relevant to the trade.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with a command of business English.
- Effective organizational and time management abilities.
