Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Instructional Assistant Trades Specialist to join our team at Vancouver Community College. As a key member of our trades department, you will provide administrative support, prepare and set up shop projects, and coordinate facility tours and events.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Provide administrative support, including responding to student inquiries, drafting correspondence, and maintaining department meeting minutes.
  2. Prepare purchase requisitions for supplies, parts, and equipment for instructional needs.
  3. Supervise shop activity in the absence of the instructor and maintain student records.
  4. Maintain and troubleshoot shop training aids and equipment.
  5. Prepare and set up shop projects and construct training aids for departmental programs.
  6. Maintain and update various records, including student marks, apprenticeship documentation, and ELT enrollment.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 plus Red Seal Certification in Heavy Duty Equipment or related trades program and over one year of experience working with heavy mechanical equipment.
  • Forklift 1-4-5 certification required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
