Job Title: Regional Public Health Manager

Join the Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority as a Regional Public Health Manager and play a key role in promoting the health and wellbeing of First Nations communities in northwestern Ontario.

About the Role

The Regional Public Health Manager will provide leadership and direction for the Safe Communities programming of the Approaches to Community Wellbeing. This includes overseeing the regional services provided by the Safe Communities team and working with communities to enhance their capacity around Safe Communities initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement Safe Communities programming, including environmental health, injury prevention, and emergency preparedness initiatives.
  • Work with the ACW Director, Associate Director, and other partners to negotiate transition plans, sustainable funding, and partnership agreements.
  • Provide supervision and direction to Safe Communities staff, including ensuring communication practices are clear and in place, administering organizational policies and procedures, and appraising employee performance.
  • Monitor work plans and finances of Safe Communities, including managing annual budgets and preparing funding proposals and reports.
  • Coordinate the promotion of Safe Communities, including managing correspondence, reports, and briefing notes, and conducting presentations as needed.
  • Supervise Safe Communities services, including liaising with leadership, frontline workers, and health care providers to collaboratively strategize means to address priority issues related to Safe Communities.
Requirements
  • Minimum 3 years direct work experience in environmental health, injury prevention, and/or emergency preparedness.
  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field.
  • CPHI(C) designation is an asset.
  • Incident Management System and Basic Emergency Management training certifications are an asset.
  • Direct work experience in a project management or management capacity is an asset.
  • Valid Ontario G drivers licence.
  • Understanding of public health, including the Health Promotion and Protection Act and the Ontario Public Health Standards, and First Nations health systems.
  • Experience in project planning and evaluation.
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-orientated, collaborative environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Experience managing budgets and fulfilling reporting requirements to funders.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to develop and maintain respectful/cooperative relationships with First Nations people, communities, service stakeholders, and health care providers.
  • Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects within the Sioux Lookout area is an asset.
  • Must be willing to travel to remote fly-in communities.
  • Must be willing to relocate to Sioux Lookout.
