Position Overview
The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering a range of services that bolster the operations of the unit, adhering to infection control standards and departmental protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Aiding unit personnel in relocating chairs, beds, stretchers, machines, and various equipment.
- Assisting with patient transportation within the unit under direct clinical oversight.
- Managing the delivery and collection of equipment and supplies.
- Transporting patient lab specimens, blood tests, and x-rays to designated areas.
- Establishing isolation protocols (including linen hampers, carts, waste containers, and isolation linen).
- Distributing linen to patient rooms.
- Following directives from the healthcare team during emergency situations and peak activity periods.
- Monitoring and emptying soiled linen receptacles.
- Ensuring patient rooms are prepared for new admissions.
- Conducting regular safety inspections of patient rooms (including bed alarm checks and ensuring rooms are free of trip hazards).
- Performing regular audits as necessary (e.g., Hand-Hygiene Audit Checklist).
- Assisting in maintaining room cleanliness.
- Overseeing unit inventory and replenishing supplies as needed.
- Restocking unit-specific supply carts and managing inventory deliveries to the unit.
- Maintaining inventory levels of non-just-in-time supply carts and providing inventory lists to the Unit Secretary.
- Checking and restocking patient/treatment areas and supply carts, including hallway supply carts, linen carts, wound carts, and isolation carts.
- Collecting restraints, lifts, slings, and other patient-specific equipment for laundry pickup by laundry staff.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
