Job Title: Winter 2025 Geology for Engineers Contract Lecturer

This is a part-time hourly appointment for a contract lecturer position in the Department of Civil Engineering at Toronto Metropolitan University.

Course Information

CVL423 Winter 2025 Geology for Engineers is a course that provides Civil Engineering students with an understanding of the physical world in which they work and live.

Course Description

The course deals with the following topics: structure of the earth, plate tectonic theory and continental drift, minerals, rocks and their mode of formation, erosion and weathering, soil formation, folding and fracturing of rocks, earthquakes, volcanoes, glacial landforms and permafrost, ground and surface water, rock mass stability, mass wasting, and the physiography of Canada.

Teaching Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching the course, which includes lecture presentation, email interaction, and follow-through with assignments.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in the related discipline, outstanding performance in an equivalent course at the graduate or senior undergraduate level, evidence of having maintained up-to-date knowledge and/or academic currency in specific field/discipline, minimum of three years professional experience, demonstrated teaching skills with minimum three years' post-secondary teaching/GA experience, and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with students.

Practice Field Experience

The candidate should have current (past 3 years) practice in related field 6-10 (depends on quality of experience, including relevance to course, level of responsibility, relevant professional accreditation, etc.) or past (more than 3) years ago) practice in related field.Currency

The candidate should have academic publications (refereed) in past 5 years, academic publications more than 5 years ago or current (less than 5 years) professional profile (including professional or academic presentations), or other demonstrated professional currency (practitioner writing, courses taken).

Interactive Skills

The following will be rated based on previous teaching ratings/evaluations: lecture presentation, email interaction, and follow-through with assignments.
