Position Title: Indigenous Cultural Assistant

Employer: Northern Lights College

Appointment Duration: Monday to Friday, 35 hours weekly

Work Location: Dawson Creek or Fort St. John

Supervisor: Director of Indigenous Education

Compensation: Classification 13, $54,504.02 annually as per BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Annual vacation (119 hours) is pro-rated and provided upfront. We offer competitive extended health and dental benefits (eligible after 6 months of employment), as well as time off for family illness, personal illness, and other special leaves. Paid time off during the Christmas Break (Dec 25 - Jan 1) each year. Participation in the Municipal Pension Plan is mandatory for all regular, full-time staff, with employer-matched contributions.

Role Overview:

  • Provide culturally attuned services to foster Indigenous student achievement
  • Organize cultural events and initiatives
  • Facilitate cultural connections to enhance student involvement and support
  • Engage students through cultural teachings and Indigenous educational practices

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of grade 12
  • Two years of relevant post-secondary education and 3-5 years of pertinent experience with Indigenous students, communities, and Elders
  • Proven experience and cultural training in Indigenous art forms, music, dance, and storytelling
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an understanding of intercultural dynamics
