Role Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced leader in Indigenous Relations and Business Development to join our team. This position is pivotal in fostering early relationship-building and exploring business development opportunities with Indigenous communities through innovative economic partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategies to establish and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous communities, their representatives, and governing bodies.
  • Provide strategic guidance to ensure that operational programs align with the principles of Indigenous Relations, recognizing the unique legal, historical, and cultural significance of Indigenous peoples and their lands.
  • Design and execute community engagement strategies that reflect mutual respect and advance corporate objectives.
  • Formulate corporate policies that support the objectives of Indigenous Relations, ensuring that all business lines operate in a manner that respects Indigenous communities.
  • Offer strategic counsel and present recommendations to senior management on critical strategies and programs related to Indigenous relations.
  • Travel to Indigenous communities to cultivate and sustain strategic relationships with elected officials.
  • Engage with government officials at various levels and collaborate with major corporations and Indigenous associations.
  • Address sensitive issues involving Indigenous communities, applying sound judgment and discretion.
  • Establish consultation plans to secure necessary regulatory and governmental approvals for significant projects.
  • Lead consultation processes with Indigenous communities as directed.
  • Implement initiatives aimed at enhancing Indigenous satisfaction and improving Hydro One's reputation within these communities.
  • Analyze performance data to assess the effectiveness of activities and provide necessary reports.
  • Manage project budgets efficiently, ensuring optimal use of resources.
  • Oversee staff and contractors involved in Indigenous relations initiatives, ensuring quality and timely delivery of work.
  • Provide leadership and accountability for the successful execution of assigned programs and projects.
  • Make informed recommendations on human resource matters, including hiring and performance management.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Indigenous relations, stakeholder engagement, or related fields.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities on major projects, focusing on engagement planning, regulatory compliance, and capacity building.
  • Proven negotiation skills and a track record of building trusted relationships with Indigenous communities.
  • Strong strategic planning and leadership capabilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications and possess a high degree of computer literacy.
  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
