Cenovus Energy is seeking a highly skilled Staff Reservoir Optimization Engineer to join our Thermal Reservoir Optimization team in Calgary. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for analyzing well and reservoir operating data to implement strategies that improve long-term reservoir performance.
This is a fast-paced and high-accountability environment where you will play a critical role in supporting Cenovus' thermal growth plans. You will work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team of geoscientists and production engineers to optimize a group of pads, leveraging reservoir simulation and history matching to accurately evaluate opportunities.
Key Responsibilities- Work with Pad Teams to action opportunities to improve conformance, reduce SOR, increase production/recovery, and minimize impacts of bottom water and thief zones.
- Coordinate performance evaluations on assigned base pads and mentor less experienced staff on base pads, including production comparisons to forecasts and tracking recovery vs time.
- Develop and history match models to understand and forecast pad performance, identifying and evaluating potential benefit optimization opportunities.
- Evaluate redrill opportunities on assigned operating pads and develop forecasts and economic evaluations in support of those candidates.
- Identify and progress studies and field trials to continuously optimize performance in support of operating strategy advancement and technology progression.
- Refine standards and influence best practices for the broader thermal reservoir community.
- Represent the Reservoir Optimization team on multi-discipline task-forces to identify and progress opportunities to improve operational and financial performance.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) accredited with APEGA or other Provincial Professional Organization is required.
- 12+ years of oil & gas industry experience is required.
- Preference for candidates with a minimum 5 years SAGD thermal experience or other enhanced oil recovery experience in a subsurface role.
- Advanced skills in Reservoir Technical Proficiencies with depth of knowledge of multiple subsurface subject areas.
- Solid understanding of reservoir simulation (Cenovus Sapsim, CMG STARS, SLB Intersect, or an equivalent thermal simulation software package) is an asset.
- Experience programming in one or more languages (Python, R, VBA, Matlab, C++, SQL, etc.) is an asset.
- Proven record to work collaboratively in a team environment and ability to influence others without formal authority.
- Communicates complex information, clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated capacity to learn new concepts quickly and drive for continuous improvement.
- Models the values of Cenovus Energy in all interactions and activities.
