Position Overview

Under the supervision of the Chief Social Worker, the Social Worker plays a crucial role within the Interdisciplinary team, addressing the psychosocial aspects of health conditions for clients and their families as part of their healthcare planning.

Your responsibilities include fostering effective coping mechanisms and adaptations to the challenges posed by illness or hospitalization, aiming for the highest level of functioning and health for clients.

The Social Worker is responsible for assessing and strategizing safe transitions back to the community, whether in the client's home or other care settings.

All duties are performed in accordance with the established standards and protocols of the Social Work Department and the policies of the Northern Health Authority.


Work Schedule: Days and Evenings, 07:00 to 15:00, 14:45 to 22:45 (Rotating)

Qualifications:
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Social Work from an accredited institution.
  • Registered with the BC College of Social Workers.
  • Minimum one year of clinical experience in a healthcare setting as a Social Worker.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in conducting social and psychosocial evaluations.
  • Competence in providing therapeutic crisis intervention.
  • Collaborative skills to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Conflict resolution abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and colleagues.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of emotional and mental health issues related to medical conditions.
  • Understanding of cultural considerations for clients from diverse backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with healthcare legislation and policies affecting clients.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Physical capability to fulfill job responsibilities.
