Position Summary

We are seeking qualified candidates for Intermediate or Senior Project Engineer roles (Civil & Electrical Engineering) within the Engineering Projects Department. Reporting to the Manager of Airside Engineering Projects, the successful candidates will oversee the execution and management of a variety of construction projects, focusing on airfield and apron facilities, lighting, and utility systems.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Overseeing assigned capital projects, including defining project requirements, scope, budget, and timeline.
- Creating and executing project implementation strategies in partnership with Airport Operations and Maintenance, while championing construction safety and environmental responsibility.
- Assisting in the development and assessment of Request for Proposal and Tender documents, including scope definition, technical specifications, and scheduling considerations.
- Leading design teams to achieve project goals while adhering to established scope, schedule, and budget constraints.
- Managing project budgets, including cost forecasting and risk assessment.
- Coordinating with internal Airport Authority departments and external stakeholders throughout project lifecycles, including managing construction contracts, monitoring progress, handling change orders, and resolving disputes.
Essential Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years' experience for Intermediate Project Engineer or ten years' experience for Senior Project Engineer in managing construction projects within the design, construction, or consulting sectors, complemented by a post-secondary degree in civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering.
- Professional Engineer registration with Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC); successful completion of the National Professional Practice Exam (NPPE) is mandatory.
- In-depth knowledge of construction industry practices and standards, particularly in heavy civil work; familiarity with airport operations is advantageous.
- Strong project management, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Project.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.
This position is available to both current Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external applicants. Previous job performance will be considered for all internal candidates.
Compensation: Salary ranges from $91,587 to $119,696 (Intermediate) or $97,599 to $127,555 (Senior) annually, based on a standard 37.5-hour work week. Compensation is tailored to reflect individual experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
