Key Responsibilities

The Recycling and Waste Centre Manager will collaborate closely with the Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations of the Recycling and Waste Centre. This includes managing scale operations, waste handling, and recycling depot functions while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The facility operates nearly 24 hours a day, 363 days a year.

  • Oversee the seamless operation of the facility in alignment with operational contracts;
  • Ensure the effective management of recyclables and waste to optimize production safely;
  • Implement daily, weekly, and monthly preventative maintenance tasks to uphold safety and efficiency;
  • Establish and meet budgetary goals through effective resource management, including labor, equipment, and supplies;
  • Supervise a team of up to 25 direct and indirect reports;
  • Evaluate work performance to ensure quality, timeliness, and adherence to established policies;
  • Lead the implementation and monitoring of processes to enhance safety, productivity, and profitability;
  • Support Supervisors in maximizing the efficiency of their teams;
  • Address customer service issues and collaborate with staff to minimize complaints;
  • Participate in regular meetings with stakeholders to report on facility operations;
  • Present financial performance reports to senior management;
  • Conduct safety meetings to foster positive relationships among employees and promote morale and efficiency;
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports to senior management.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 or GED; relevant post-secondary education is an asset;
  • Previous managerial experience is essential;
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • A positive mindset that fosters a collaborative work environment;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with employees at all levels;
  • Experience in the waste management and recycling sector is advantageous;
  • Background in operational financial management is preferred.
