Role Overview

We are seeking a Product Compliance & Risk Manager to play a pivotal role in the growth of our Assets product in Australia. This position presents a unique opportunity to influence how individuals manage their funds.

Your Responsibilities

Wise has introduced the Assets product, a novel investment account available in various regions, including the UK, Europe, and Singapore. This offering allows customers to invest their funds in different asset classes while retaining the flexibility of a checking account. Customers can earn returns that align with central bank interest rates while maintaining immediate access to their funds.

In this role, you will ensure that Wise adheres to all regulatory standards necessary for offering investment products in Australia. You will also identify and address key risks associated with the Assets product.

Key ResponsibilitiesLaunching and Enhancing the Assets Product:
  • Collaborate with product teams throughout the entire product lifecycle, from conception and user testing to launch and post-launch evaluation.
  • Act as the primary liaison for any regulatory inquiries related to the Wise Assets product in Australia.
  • Conduct comprehensive regulatory assessments of new products and services, ensuring all necessary controls are established prior to launch.
  • Empower product teams to adopt a risk-focused approach in developing products, processes, and controls.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance our product offerings by thoroughly analyzing relevant regulations and challenging existing interpretations.
Managing and Mitigating Regulatory Risks:
  • Identify regulatory risks and implement effective mitigation strategies for Wise's investment product in Australia.
  • Conduct pre-launch and ongoing regulatory risk evaluations, providing insightful guidance to product managers on current and future regulations, gaps, and risks.
  • Collaborate with Compliance and Product teams to ensure that remediation strategies are developed and executed promptly.
  • Work alongside colleagues in the compliance oversight team to keep product teams informed of new and upcoming regulations.
  • In partnership with second-line Compliance and Risk teams, identify and align on key regulatory issues and risks in Australia, presenting findings clearly to facilitate collaborative solutions.
Qualifications

Essential:

  • In-depth knowledge of Australian regulations relevant to investment firms offering retail investments.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a legal or compliance role within the retail investment sector or broader investment industry.
  • A proactive problem-solving mindset, capable of leveraging regulations and data to inform business decisions.
  • A strong sense of ownership, with a desire to take initiative and lead projects from start to finish.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with product managers and engineers, providing actionable recommendations.
  • Familiarity with the evolving regulatory landscape set by ASIC regarding retail investment products.
  • Experience or a strong interest in working within a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of payment systems and regulatory requirements for Authorised Deposit-taking Institutions (ADIs).
  • Experience interacting with ASIC, APRA, or AUSTRAC.
  • Background in a startup or scale-up environment.
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • A passion for problem-solving and developing top-tier products for customers.
  • Strong prioritization skills to identify key areas for regulatory improvement.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
