About the Role

The Director of Procurement will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing all aspects of the global procurement process to ensure the achievement of operational and financial objectives of the organization. Specialized in pharmaceutical procurement and supplier networks, they will play a crucial role in ensuring that the organization's pharmaceutical procurement processes are in line with the strictest quality, compliance, and innovation standards in the dynamic pharmaceutical sector.

Key Responsibilities and Functions:

  • Develop a global procurement strategy and execute the plan, taking into account the organization's needs, department growth, and vision for one, three, and five-year projections.
  • Develop and implement a global organizational procurement strategy and plans.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to understand the organization's needs and requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with sector regulations, market dynamics, and technological advancements in procurement, and suggest and implement process improvements as needed.
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction initiatives without compromising quality or process efficiency.
  • Rationalize and improve procurement processes to increase efficiency and reduce lead times.
  • Implement best practices and innovative solutions to promote continuous improvement.

Supplier Relationship Management

  • Strategically expand and diversify the pharmaceutical supplier network to strengthen Medisca's competitive advantage.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers worldwide (particularly in China) by promoting open communication, trust, and collaboration to ensure a reliable and sustainable value chain.
  • Negotiate and finalize contracts, ensuring favorable conditions for the organization.
  • Work interfunctionally with product pricing and profitability services, demand planning, and logistics to ensure the success of procurement strategies.

Performance Reporting and Analysis

  • Establish and track key performance indicators to measure procurement function performance and efficiency.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and cost-reduction opportunities.
  • Present results, recommendations, and strategic perspectives to the executive team in a clear and concise manner.
  • Collaborate with financial and accounting services to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of procurement-related expenses.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with procurement activities, working closely with legal and compliance teams.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to preserve Medisca's interests.
  • Ensure procurement activities comply with laws, regulations, and company policies.

Team Management

  • Lead and manage the procurement team, promoting a culture of collaboration and results.
  • Coach and mentor team members, helping them to excel.
  • Promote a culture of motivation and mobilization within the team that encourages commitment to operational excellence.
  • Set clear goals and objectives and monitor performance against key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Offer opportunities for professional development and training to team members.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business administration, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • Eight (8) years or more of recognized experience in procurement, including at least five (5) years in a leadership role.
  • Extensive experience in pharmaceutical raw materials procurement.
  • Technical/scientific knowledge of APIs and the regulatory environment of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for each country and region.
  • Experience with the use of artificial intelligence and technology to improve efficiency (an asset).
  • Microsoft Office suite (Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel) knowledge required.
  • Excellent communication skills; French and English (oral and written). Their direct subordinates live outside Quebec and will deal with foreign suppliers.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong negotiation, contract management, and supplier relationship skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Mastery of SRP/ERP/MRP systems (Syspro is an asset).
  • Experience with business intelligence or other reporting tools.
  • Team spirit, remarkable communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Sense of responsibility, ability to prioritize tasks, take on challenges, and meet deadlines in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Aptitude to follow, achieve results, and assume responsibilities, ability to establish positive relationships with ease and influence at all levels.
