The Opportunity
We are seeking a Student Conduct Officer to join our team. This role will provide guidance and support to students, staff, and faculty on issues related to student conduct and behavior. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Student Case Management Team to assess and address critical incidents involving students.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide guidance and support to students, staff, and faculty on issues related to student conduct and behavior.
- Work collaboratively with the Student Case Management Team to assess and address critical incidents involving students.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote a safe and respectful community.
- Provide training and education to students, staff, and faculty on issues related to student conduct and behavior.
- Collaborate with other university departments to develop and implement policies and procedures related to student conduct and behavior.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g. social work, counseling, psychology, public health).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a university setting, with a demonstrated background in community service, student affairs, complex problem solving, and policy administration and development.
- Knowledge of community resources for survivors of violence or trauma.
- Knowledge of and training in restorative justice and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).
- Experience with trauma-informed program development, implementation, and assessment.
- Strong understanding of issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion, social justice, and systems of oppression.
- Knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the personal, intersectional needs, concerns, and interests of a diverse student population.
- Knowledge of current issues and best practices regarding safety and security, youth culture, university administration, student development theory, student service delivery, as well as knowledge about legal and human rights legislation and workplace violence.
- Demonstrated expertise in case management and considerable skill in developing and maintaining a database of student conduct issues.
- Excellent oral and written communication/interpersonal skills and the ability to present information in a persuasive fashion to teach and promote best practices.
- Highly developed problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess situations from several perspectives and analyze likely repercussions of various choices.
- Strong research, investigative, and analytical skills and the ability to synthesize information and draw suitable conclusions.
- Well-developed coaching and advising skills, with a high degree of sensitivity to the needs of others, including students, especially in times of stress.
- Ability to work diplomatically with a wide variety of stakeholders, including staff, faculty, students, senior administration, Security and Emergency Services, and external agencies.
- Capability and flexibility in managing conflicting priorities and demands from multiple individuals, frequently in emotionally charged situations.
- Proficiency with the Google Suite, Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint), and email software.
