This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in enabling our business to meet its objectives as a Marine Software Engineer.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Marine Software Engineer will be tasked with the design, coding, debugging, testing, and maintenance of our suite of software applications throughout the software development lifecycle. The application software is crucial for controlling, monitoring, and displaying data from our sonar device portfolio, providing essential functionality to end users. This key position requires a solid foundation in software development and engineering principles, an understanding of hardware-software interactions, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a hybrid team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document high-quality software for sonar device control and monitoring.
  • Analyze and resolve defects, implement new features in existing applications.
  • Create, update, and maintain design documentation to facilitate efficient maintenance and code reuse.
  • Ensure software functionality, performance, stability, and reliability align with business and user requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineering team members, product managers, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with feature requirements.
  • Stay informed about current technologies, including AI, and propose solutions to meet project needs.
  • Assist in developing system architectures based on scalable design and coding practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of software development processes within the team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:

  • A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in software design and development.
  • Proficiency in C++ and object-oriented design.
  • Experience in embedded firmware development is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with:
    • Software system development and design
    • Ethernet/Sockets programming (e.g., TCP/IP protocols)
    • Multi-threaded programming
    • Operating systems (Windows, Linux, FreeRTOS), Real-time systems
    • GUI design and development
    • Signal and image processing
    • Agile methodologies
    • System integration and testing
    • Version control systems (e.g., Git)
    • MATLAB
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, including hardware and software engineers.
  • Ability to work with hybrid, local, and remote development teams.
  • High energy, enthusiasm, and a strong drive for delivering quality products.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of electronic assemblies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
