Job Summary

The College of the North Atlantic is seeking a qualified Early Childhood Educator to join our team on a casual/call-in basis. As an Early Childhood Educator, you will play a vital role in supporting the development of young children and providing a safe and nurturing environment for them to grow and learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and encourage the development of children from birth to age six, ensuring their health and safety while attending to their physical, emotional, and cognitive needs.
  • Participate in curriculum planning and implementation for children, as well as mentoring students during field practice and lab components of relevant Early Childhood Education courses.
  • Work collaboratively with other Early Childhood Educators to provide a high-quality learning environment for children.
  • Assist with daily routines, activities, and programs for children, including mealtime, rest time, and outdoor play.
  • Communicate effectively with children, families, and colleagues to ensure a smooth and efficient operation of the childcare program.

Requirements

  • At minimum, candidates must be enrolled in a minimum Level I provincially recognized Certificate program in Early Childhood Education, resulting in a minimum Level I Child Care Services Certification through the Association of Early Childhood Educators of NL.
  • At least one year of experience working as part of the staff to child ratio in a regulated childcare setting is an asset.

  • Knowledge of early childhood education principles and legislation.
  • The ability to build trust and positive relationships with children, families, and students.
  • Conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work as a member of a childcare team.
  • Effective organizational, planning, and communication skills.

Conditions of Employment

  • A Criminal Record Check, a Vulnerable Sector Check, current First Aid/CPR, and a copy of updated immunizations deemed satisfactory to the Employer will be required prior to finalizing an offer of employment and 'Verification of Level I Certification through AECENL.
  • Salary: CG-27 - $27.63 per hour.
