OCAD University is seeking a qualified Sessional Instructor to teach the course HUMN-2003: History of Political Thought in the Fall/Winter 2024-25 terms.

Course Description:

This course introduces students to key issues and debates in political thought, with a focus on Canadian politics. Students will explore classical definitions of the political, conservatism and liberalism, socialism, anarchism, and communism. The course will also examine the tension between individual and collective interests, decolonization, feminist challenges to patriarchal power, and the nation-to-nation relationship between the federal government and indigenous peoples.

Responsibilities:
  • Teaching and teaching-related responsibilities, including course outline development, studio preparation, and delivery of lectures, critiques, grading, and evaluations.
  • Ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications:
  • A terminal degree in art, design, or a relevant discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary level is an asset.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and experience promoting a respectful and inclusive work and learning environment.
Terms of Employment:

Sessional appointments are fixed-term annual contracts. Sessional compensation includes a per-course pay scale with a salary level of $6,871.00 (per 0.5 credit course) plus 7% in lieu of benefits and vacation pay, per the provisions of the Employment Standards Act.
