About the Role

The First Nations Health Authority is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the position of Director of Operations, Medical Affairs. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing operational leadership of medical staff, including governance, credentialing, and contracting, in accordance with federal and provincial legislation, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of human resource strategies, including proposed organizational structures, qualifications, recruitment, compensation models, cultural safety and humility standards, and continuing medical education.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of medical administration initiatives related to the delivery of physician services in BC First Nation-led Primary Care projects.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with the provincial Ministry of Health, provincial health authorities, Indigenous Services Canada, and Health Canada to advance medical governance-related matters.
  • Ensure the integration of the medical staff lens and voice into the planning and decision-making processes of the projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health Administration, Healthcare Administration, or Business Administration, or a relevant field.
  • Master's degree would be an asset.
  • Relevant, recent, and significant experience working with medical staff.
  • Relevant, recent, and significant experience working within BC's healthcare system (usually acquired over 8-10 years).
  • Experience working with Indigenous individuals, communities, and/or organizations in the area of health and wellness.
  • Experience planning, supervising, and evaluating programs and services.
  • Experience in medical affairs and/or medical staff governance would be a considerable asset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of the work of the FNHA and the health and wellness landscape and governance model in BC as related to First Nations.
  • In-depth knowledge of physician compensation models, the Physician Master Agreement, Joint Standing Committees, and contract templates.
  • In-depth knowledge of nurse practitioner contracts and compensation models.
  • In-depth knowledge of First Nations health and wellness system needs and social determinants of health in BC, including the In Plain Sight report and recommendations.
  • Knowledge of the Primary Care landscape in BC, particularly as related to the BC First Nation-led Primary Care projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of public health systems and Indigenous health systems in BC.
