Overview

The Patient Care Support Specialist plays a vital role in delivering direct and indirect patient care, contributing to the overall success of the Interprofessional care plan. Working under the guidance of Registered Nurses (RNs) or Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs), or other members of the multidisciplinary team, you will execute tasks that directly support patient well-being.

Within our Medicine/Surgery A2 unit, a diverse range of skills related to general medical-surgical care are essential. The ideal candidate possesses strong critical thinking abilities and the adaptability to navigate unpredictable situations. To meet the evolving needs of our organization, willingness to cross-train in specialty areas is highly valued.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Execute basic patient care functions as directed by RNs or RPNs, ensuring alignment with the Interprofessional plan of care.
  • Cultivate supportive and trusting relationships with patients, empowering them to actively participate in their care decisions.
  • Prioritize patient safety by conducting bedside safety checks and adhering to hospital infection control protocols, including meticulous handwashing practices.
  • Maintain a safe environment for both yourself and the team by utilizing appropriate equipment, such as ceiling lift devices.
  • Contribute to effective teamwork through active participation in bedside shift reports and hourly rounding practices.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with personal hygiene tasks, including dressing/undressing, bathing, and grooming.
  • Provide support with mobility and ambulation as needed.
  • Prepare and assist patients with meals and snacks.
  • Maintain a clean and organized patient environment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
