Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Unit Manager to join our team at CAA Club Group. As a key member of our underwriting operations team, you will be responsible for managing the daily underwriting activities of a team of commercial lines underwriters in the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and underwrite complex new and existing individually underwritten Commercial Property policies
  • Develop underwriting processes and procedures
  • Review new and renewal underwriting referrals and provide timely approval or modifications
  • Participate in developing projections and forecasts for planning
  • Analyze claims history, loss trends and expenses
  • Build and maintain collaborative internal and external relationships
  • Train and coach direct reports
  • Support the implementation of strategic initiatives
  • Review statistical analysis of data to evaluate the success of current strategies
  • Maintain comprehensive competitive and industry information
  • Prepare and analyze product-based financial and variance reports on a monthly and quarterly basis
  • Participate in the development of analytic tools to improve the ability to identify issues and trends

Requirements

  • University degree or college diploma with a CIP/FCIP designation
  • 8+ years of commercial property and casualty underwriting experience with 2+ years of leadership experience
  • CIP certification preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong product knowledge and thorough understanding of insurance policy wordings
  • Ability to make sound business decisions
  • Product management experience with profit & loss responsibility
  • Understanding of financial management methods, the nature of insurance risk and reinsurance
  • Strategic problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Solid knowledge of computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Bilingual written and spoken (French & English)
