We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist to join our team at William Osler Health System. As a Medical Laboratory Technologist - Transfusion Medicine Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and effective transfusion of blood and blood components to patients.
Key Responsibilities- Quality Control and Assurance: Monitor quality control results and respond appropriately to discordant results, ensuring that laboratory processes and procedures are followed.
- Specimen Management: Ensure that specimen collection, integrity, transport, and storage are appropriate for sample processing and analysis.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory analyzers and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
- Transfusion Medicine: Monitor temperature and expiry dates of blood and blood component products to ensure products are acceptable for transfusion, and discard outdated or compromised products as required.
- Communication and Collaboration: Actively participate in the laboratory quality management system and process improvements, and communicate effectively with colleagues and healthcare teams to ensure seamless patient care.
- Certification and Registration: Medical Laboratory Technologist with CSMLS certification and current registration with CMLTO in good standing.
- Experience and Education: Minimum two years recent transfusion medicine experience in a hospital laboratory setting, or must demonstrate successful completion of all relevant education within the past two years.
- Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and maintain high level of productivity, competence, and professionalism; strong multi-tasking, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills; excellent organizational and communication skills; and proven ability to be a team player.
This is a full-time position, working days/evenings/nights, including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements). May be required to travel between and work at all Osler sites.
