Job Summary

We are seeking a reliable and professional Class 1 Driver to join our team at Wapiti Gravel Suppliers, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for hauling gravel and other materials in a safe and efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate trucks in a safe and appropriate manner, adhering to all relevant regulations and company policies.
  • Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed, and ensure that the vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment used is properly positioned.
  • Ensure the timely delivery of materials, reducing bottlenecks in the construction process and promoting a smooth workflow.
  • Verify that all vehicle documents and applicable permits are valid and present in the vehicle.
  • Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety program, encouraging all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
  • Attend daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections to stay informed and up-to-date on company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the area above and around the truck is clear of overhead lines and other obstructions before raising the box to dump loads.
  • Perform other related duties as required to support the successful operation of our gravel hauling operations.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Class 1 Driver's License.
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years' experience in the road construction industry, with a preference for city and oilfield hauling experience.
  • 2 to 3 years' experience hauling gravel or similar materials operating a tandem and/or wagon.
  • Knowledge of road construction processes and industry requirements.
Working Conditions
  • Schedule: Monday to Saturday, up to 14 hours per day (weather dependent), with overtime paid in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.
  • Work environment: indoor and outdoor settings, which may include sitting for extended periods, wrist dexterity, inclement weather, heat, and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Physical demands: must be able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
