Clinical Nurse Specialist – Newborn and Obstetric Care

Sinai Health is seeking a highly skilled Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team in the Mother Baby Program and Postnatal Ambulatory Clinic. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide comprehensive care to newborns and obstetric patients, utilizing your advanced clinical knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Provide physical examinations, communicate diagnoses or consultations, and provide referrals to patients and families.
- Support staff nurses with orders and communicate diagnoses or consultations to ensure they are practicing within their scope of practice.
- Support and facilitate the discharge of patients to ensure smooth transition from Labour & Delivery.
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to establish goals and objectives for the program, consistent with the provision of high-quality care.
- Participate in the programmatic development of the clinical area and provide leadership in nursing practice, program development, and evaluation.
- Aid in the development and maintenance of standards of clinical practice through the creation of an environment conducive to growth and development of staff, excellence in clinical practice, and implementation and utilization of research.
- Interpret and foster the philosophy, goals, and standards of the Department of Nursing, Department of Obstetrics, and Department of Paediatrics.
- Develop partnerships within MSH and within the community at large, including identification of community resources and multi-cultural services to enhance continuity of care for clients.
- Perform and participate in research activities and implement and advance changes in evidence-based practice.
- Deliver, coordinate, and participate in education and professional development activities/programs involving both staff and clients.
- Perform activities to further develop and strengthen the profession, including the supervision of advanced nursing students.
- Act as a resource and serve as a consultant to individuals and groups within the professional community.
- Completion of a Master's Degree program in nursing and a Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate or equivalent required.
- Current registration (Extended Class, All Ages) in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience practicing as an NP in a family clinic with primary newborn care experience.
- Experience in postpartum and newborn nursing preferred.
- Canadian Nurses Association Perinatal Nursing certificate.
- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
- Neonatal Resuscitation certificate.
- CPR certificate.
- Membership in RNAO and other organizations relevant to the role.
- Demonstrated experience through roles of advanced practitioner, educator, researcher, and administration/leadership, an asset.
- Experience precepting and evaluating undergraduate and graduate nursing students, as well as medical residents and midwives.
- Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to sensitively communicate with patients/families in vulnerable situations.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and customer services skills.
- Excellent organization, time management, program planning, and evaluation skills.
- Demonstrated decision-making, problem recognition/solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proven commitment to collaborative practice and ability to work effectively independently and within an interdisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to utilize information technology.
- Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history.
