Category Merchandising Manager

About the Role
As a key member of our Hardlines team at Red Apple Stores ULC, our Category Merchandising Manager plays a crucial role in building an effective assortment through planning, developing, sourcing, buying, managing, and administering merchandise within assigned categories and/or departments to drive business success.
Responsibilities
- Develop and Execute Merchandising Strategies
- Develop, manage, and administer the merchandising and financial strategy and plan for hardline categories and/or departments, aligned with overall business objectives.
- Prepare plans and forecasts of sales, turns, margins, and open-to-buy in collaboration with the Planner.
- Anticipate Customer Needs
- Proactively work to anticipate customer needs for hardlines categories by building a focused merchandising strategy.
- Product and Category Management
- Review product/category analysis.
- Build and maintain a strong merchandise assortment, sourcing, and negotiating products, selecting, pricing, and ordering for all programs (core, seasonal, and opportunity buys).
- Communication and Collaboration
- Regular communication with the allocation team.
- Build and maintain good vendor relations.
- Communicate effectively with logistics and stores as required.
- Marketing and Promotion
- Plan and coordinate the execution of all promotional activities of assigned categories, including Seasonal, Monthly, and Weekly promotional planning (advertising, signing, and product setup).
- Market Research and Analysis
- Conduct market research - customer, industry, direct, and indirect competition, and external environment.
- Store Visits and Feedback
- Visit Red Apple Stores regularly to maintain a connection with the field and understand challenges in execution at store level.
- Special Projects
- Undertake special projects as required.
About You
- Minimum 3-4 years of previous hardlines retail (toys/electronics/other hardlines) experience.
- Entrepreneurial mindset, passion for, and knowledge of the category.
- Experience in marketing merchandise (product, pricing, promotions, placement).
- Degree or diploma in Merchandising, Business, Marketing, or a related field.
- Excellent negotiator and communicator with attention to detail.
- A results-driven, self-starter with a demonstrated passion for buying and a desire to learn our business and customer.
- Ability to work in a team or independently.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task.
- Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and intermediate working knowledge of merchandising systems.
