Position Overview

YOUR PROFILE

As a recognized expert in estimating costs for large-scale industrial projects, you demonstrate autonomy and possess strong analytical skills. You excel in coordinating various project components with multiple stakeholders, ensuring a thorough assessment of equipment and resource needs. Your expertise encompasses estimating complex heavy industrial installations, driven by a desire to significantly impact your professional field and contribute to innovative waste management and renewable energy initiatives.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

In the role of Estimation Specialist, you will collaborate with project delivery teams, providing your expertise in preparing detailed estimates for high-profile projects. Your responsibilities will include estimating internal engineering costs and evaluating Enerkem's proprietary technology equipment. You will utilize your judgment and extensive experience in the petrochemical and/or biofuels sector to critically assess detailed project estimates from partners and service providers, identifying areas for enhancement. Additionally, you may mentor colleagues by sharing your knowledge and guiding them in best practices and professional development. You will report to the Director of Project Services, seizing the opportunity to work with a talented team while advancing your career with Enerkem's unique disruptive technology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead cost estimation for significant infrastructure projects, showcasing a high level of autonomy and expertise.
  • Assess costs associated with Enerkem's proprietary technology equipment, pinpointing uncertainties and applying suitable allocations.
  • Review technical drawings to define the scope of work and estimate specifics.
  • Conduct thorough evaluations of detailed project cost estimates, providing recommendations for further development and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Collaborate closely with various disciplines (e.g., procurement, planning, engineering) and project managers to ensure consistency in methods, estimation approaches, and deliverables.
  • Actively engage in value engineering initiatives, recommending optimal solutions based on cost, engineering, quality, and material availability.
  • Strategically contribute to the preparation of budget estimate requests and manage cost databases from previous projects to establish benchmarks.
  • Develop effective work processes to continuously enhance the quality and efficiency of estimates.
  • Assist Cost Control teams in integrating actual project costs and detailed material lists for producing Class 1 estimates regarding Enerkem's construction technology.
  • Participate in project cost estimate reviews submitted by suppliers.

Qualifications

  • University degree in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience in estimating industrial projects, preferably within the petrochemical, biofuels, mining, or metallurgical sectors.
  • Demonstrated expertise in estimating costs for major infrastructure projects.
  • Proficient in estimation software and project management tools (e.g., MS Excel, MS Access, Primavera, MS Project, Aspen Capital Cost Estimator) with the ability to utilize benchmarking data.
  • Membership in AACE (Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering) or other relevant organizations is a plus.
