Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Nursing Unit Assistant

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Nursing Unit Assistant to become a vital part of our healthcare team. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the delivery of patient care.

Responsibilities of the Nursing Unit Assistant include:

Collaborating within a team environment to perform clerical and receptionist duties that support client care. Prioritizing the needs of clients and their families above all other tasks. Executing a variety of administrative responsibilities such as: transcribing and processing orders from physicians liaising with other departments and facilities to coordinate patient appointments and transport organizing patient tests and managing the receipt of results welcoming visitors and managing telephone communications, while prioritizing requests. Compiling and maintaining patient records, as well as facilitating admissions and discharges. Conducting timekeeping tasks and compiling relevant statistics. Typing and distributing various reports and documents. Managing inventory of office supplies and ensuring filing systems are organized.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Completion of Grade 12, along with medical terminology training and graduation from an accredited Nursing Unit Clerk program, plus one (1) year of recent, relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Skills & Competencies

Proficient verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with others. Physical capability to perform the duties associated with the role. Typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute. Strong organizational skills. Ability to operate relevant equipment. Familiarity with various computer software applications.

Additional Information

Work hours, including days off and work areas, may vary based on operational needs and in accordance with the Collective Agreement and applicable regulations. Successful candidates may be required to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.

In compliance with current Public Health Orders, all employees of Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have received a single dose of the most recent COVID-19 vaccine. Proof of vaccination status will be necessary.
