About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Permit Coordinator to join our team at GHD. As a key member of our Canadian Operations, you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful delivery of our projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, submit, and monitor permit applications for various authorities, including municipal, regional, provincial, federal, and conservation bodies.
  • Engage with stakeholders diplomatically, managing competing priorities and ensuring effective communication.
  • Develop project systems and procedures to predict PLAA and land needs, utilizing GIS software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Track and produce metrics related to third-party technical matters, such as PLAAs, approval conditions, land requirements, and traffic management.
  • Support workstreams by compiling PLAA applications and obtaining PLAAs on time, according to project schedules.
  • Review and interpret technical engineering information, plans, detail sheets, specifications, and construction documentation to meet project permitting and approval needs.
  • Ensure compliance with PLAAs and regulatory requirements in workstreams, facilitating communication among cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate reporting and status updates for senior leadership and clients, organizing and maintaining project files, records, systems, and procedures.
  • Seek to improve and streamline processes and procedures related to third-party matters, participating in technical meetings with AHJs, clients, and subject matter experts.
  • Assist the PLAA Lead in scheduling, arranging, and coordinating meetings with the city and other external stakeholders, providing monthly input on various reports and spreadsheets regarding PLAA progress.
  • Monitor and track documents related to lands, property, and access throughout the project, negotiating with prospective property owners to secure a Permit to Enter for testing and technical investigations.
  • Collaborate closely with the PLAA team to achieve objectives and provide support for team members as needed, engaging in interdisciplinary coordination with Architecture, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Integrated Water Management, Traffic Management, and Planning teams.
Requirements
  • Sound knowledge of environmental approvals, construction permits, third-party permits, and overall approval processes.
  • Good communication skills, excellent problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
  • Experience with municipal, provincial, and federal permitting processes, with knowledge of general permits and approvals required for a transit infrastructure project.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, procedures, and applicable municipal acts, building codes, railway corridor infrastructure, Metrolinx Act, and related design and construction projects.
  • Ability to communicate and liaise with governmental bodies, with prior experience with PLAA considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in the design and construction industry, with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, architecture, or urban planning.
  • Working knowledge of commonly used desktop applications, such as MS Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Sharepoint, with interpersonal and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in high-paced environments, adapt to work on different projects, and possess a professional designation such as EIT, PMP, or OAA.
