Position Overview:

Location: Fort McMurray, AB

Employment Type: Full-Time Permanent

Our laboratory operates on a client site located north of Fort McMurray.

Role Summary and Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will be results-driven, focused on producing high-quality, defensible analytical data efficiently and safely, adhering to established Standard Operating Procedures. Responsibilities include conducting analyses and complex sample preparations with proficiency while gaining comprehensive knowledge of analytical methods and associated quality control techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive samples and conduct sample preparation and laboratory analyses in accordance with approved Standard Operating Procedures and safety regulations, including all relevant Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities.
  • Deliver precise analytical data promptly and accurately.
  • Utilize a diverse range of instruments, including ICP, GC, TOC, sulfur, nitrogen, and extraction techniques.
  • Effectively manage glassware and equipment for extractions, refluxes, and preparations.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain analytical instruments.
  • Ensure compliance with Bureau Veritas's policies, certifications, and accreditations.
  • Actively engage in Bureau Veritas's Health and Safety Program, including meetings, near-miss reporting, and hazard assessments.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with clients.

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in a relevant field (e.g., BS, Petroleum/Chemical Technician).
  • Experience in a Laboratory Technician or Analyst role is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of sample handling procedures to ensure sample integrity and compliance with laboratory protocols.
  • Knowledge of laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices for handling hazardous materials.
  • Excellent manual dexterity, record-keeping, calculation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to adapt to varying duties and changing priorities.
  • Strong time management, communication, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • A positive attitude with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
