Job Title: Systems Administrator II

About the Role:

Industrial Light & Magic is seeking a highly skilled Systems Administrator II to join our team in Vancouver. As a key member of our IT operations team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and advancing the technology that empowers our artists to create stunning visuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with technology teams, artists, and production to craft and maintain efficient software and hardware systems.
  • Participate in day-to-day operations, work on issues, provide guidance for other team members, and proactively help drive resolutions during incidents.
  • Supervise and maintain the health of the core infrastructure that supports our production environment, including workstations, servers, storage, network, and security.
  • Optimize and update existing systems and services, with an emphasis on performance, security, and reliability. Focus on enhancing observability and tracking important metrics.
  • Take the lead on technical projects from initial shape-up to completion, and at other times participate as a partner and contributor to someone else's idea.
  • Support ad-hoc requests and needs from our creative and technology leadership: connect and collaborate with others to settle requirements. From there, you will come up with a set of recommended proposals and work to implement those.
  • Help shape our technology direction and the future of our infrastructure and services. Look for innovative methodologies or solutions with potential to improve and benefit our operations.
  • Maintain systems administration standards and practices through well-crafted documentation and playbooks.

Requirements:

  • Willingness to collaborate and work with others without ego.
  • Motivated and adaptive self-learner, adept at quickly picking up new technical domains or piecing together internal and external knowledge resources.
  • A creative problem solver who focuses on finding sophisticated and scalable solutions.
  • Passionate about designing, building, and supporting heterogeneous systems in a multi-platform high-performance production environment.
  • Experience in, and passion for, open-source and Linux software.
  • Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent professional experience with proven work in a technical field.
  • Effective time management with the skill to balance and prioritize multiple concurrent requests while maintaining the highest standard in service delivery and follow-through.
  • Meticulous customer service skills, delivered with a caring and compassionate spirit.
  • Agile, flexible mentality who doesn't mind when the requirements or goal posts change.
  • Significant experience managing updates and configurations for Linux-based infrastructure, at scale.
  • Ability to automate workflows and provide ad-hoc solutions using bash or python or other languages.
  • Experience administrating and supporting a multi-OS environment including Linux, Windows, and macOS for both server and desktop.
  • Excellent documentation skills, including writing for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience working with cloud or cloud-like infrastructure and services, including virtual and bare-metal servers, storage, and networking.
  • Previous experience in visual effects, gaming, or similar creative studio environments would be great.
