Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Operating Room Booking Clerk at Fraser Health. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, maintaining, and distributing daily and weekly Operating Room slates using a computerized scheduling system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review surgical booking packages for completeness, including surgery details, lab work, and pre-admission tests.
  • Prepare and update daily and weekly OR slates using a computerized scheduling system, taking into account patient information and surgical requirements.
  • Collaborate with Surgeon's offices to assign patients to OR slates based on surgery type and duration.
  • Adjust initial slates as needed, considering factors such as changeover procedures and blood requirements.
  • Recommend staffing needs to ensure efficient utilization of surgical beds.
  • Coordinate activities with OR Medical staff, medical offices, and various departments regarding surgical bookings.
  • Notify relevant areas of discrepancies or adjustments to be made to OR slates.
  • Input patient information into a computer and maintain current computerized surgical waiting list.
  • Monitor surgical cancellations and reschedule procedures according to established policies and procedures.
  • Review and maintain current records for physician's vacations, on-call schedules, and requests for unused surgical blocks.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 and three years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at 45 w.p.m.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills.
