Job Title: Regulatory Assurance Manager

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Regulatory Assurance Manager is responsible for the strategic and operational delivery of Environment and Protected Areas' (EPA's) regulatory program in the Red Deer District. This position leads approximately 26 professional managers and staff across environmental regulatory authorizations and compliance functions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic planning and execution of regulatory programs
  • Leadership and management of a team of professional managers and staff
  • Collaboration with stakeholders, including municipal, industrial, agricultural, and environmental groups
  • Regulatory policy development and implementation
  • Statutory decision-making authority under various legislation
Requirements:

  • Ability to understand and assess complex regulatory situations

The Regulatory Assurance Manager holds authority as a Statutory Decision Maker for legislation within the Ministry's mandate. The incumbent oversees regulatory assurance activities primarily under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and the Water Act, and secondarily under the Alberta Land Stewardship Act and the Emissions Management and Climate Resilience Act and their associated regulations and Codes of Practice.

The position requires strong leadership skills, an advanced understanding of environmental regulatory systems, and the ability to navigate complex issues involving multiple parties. The successful candidate will have a strong drive for results, a proven track record of innovation and continuous improvement, and the ability to achieve solutions that strike the right balance between often conflicting social, environmental, and economic outcomes.
